America's Finally Waking Up

Quote of the Day

In America, anybody can be President. That's one of the risks you take.

Adlai Stevenson

Brownie Doing A Hell Of Job

Emails recently released by the House panel looking in to FEMA's handling of Hurricane Katrina show Bush's dipstick buddy "Brownie" definitely had his priorities a little screwed up during the disaster. As people were dying, starving and being thrown out in the streets the former FEMA Director was worrying about his wardrobe and how he looked on camera. In one of the emails the FEMA public affairs staffer lets Brownie know his outfit looked "fabulous". He replied "I got it at Nordstroms" and then adds "Are you proud of me? Can I quit now? "Can I go home?" In yet another email an aide suggested he roll up his sleeves for that hard at work look.

The morning the hurricane struck Louisiana, Brown emails Deputy Director of Public Affairs Cindy Taylor, saying, "Can I quit now? Can I come home?" A few days later he writes, "I am trapped. Please rescue me." Just one day after the storm hit, Brown is found emailing his assistant about his dog, apparently his wife needed helping finding a dogsitter.

Who says you can't hire your buddies to fill important jobs. Georgie...you're doing a hell of a job! What an idiot.

Down and Out

Talking about the idiot...Bushs poll ratings have fallen to 39%. Hell he can't even get out of town without catching hell. He takes a road trip to and what do you know they're rioting in the streets. What's this world coming to, a dude can't even get a break overseas.

Turning Back Time...

Quote of the Day

"In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."

Martin Luther King Jr.

Sam Alito...Right Enough For Robertson

If any one signal from God gives use pause in the nomination of Alito to the Supreme Court it should be Pat Robertson's remarks calling Alto's nomination a "home run". Bush has totally acquiesced to the neo Christian right giving them a sure vote on everything near and dear to their hearts. He is anti abortion, anti worker, anti civil rights and anti everything else that is progressive and good. Now we will see if the Democrats have the guts to do what they were elected to do, fight to stop his confirmation. On a side note...this pompous ass Alito shows up with his family at the Rotunda for a photo op standing behind Rosa Parks casket...what media horror and hypocrite. It's also a disgrace to the memory of Rosa and all she stood and fought for.

It's About Time!

In a rare showing of guts yesterday Harry Reid forced a closed session of the Senate to discuss the Republicans failure to come clean on Iraq. The move really ticked off Frist which in itself made the whole thing worth it. Oh well when he gets to prison little things like this won't bother him anymore. Time will tell if anything was gained from the move but at least they showed a little spunk. It's about time!

This whole deal on the 12 Senators that reached agreement on preventing a filibuster on the Senate floor is totally lame. The Dem's need to start acting like the opposing party and taking the Republicans head on. The war, the economy, energy prices, lies, abuse of power are all issues that need to be addressed. The two party system allows for debate and accountability and the Democrats have been letting our Country down since 911. Afraid to be labeled or persecuted for speaking their minds they are just as responsible for what's wrong today as the Republicans.

Liars..Crooks and Thiefs

Quote of the Day

Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Lord Acton

Outing a Spy...

Sad to think the White House would stoop to the level of breaching national security and the life of a CIA operative for political gain. But then again your talking about the pond scum that is Dick Chaney. Now with 2000 dead American kids in Iraq, the Chaney scandal, Katrina and the Supreme Court debacle the country is finally waking up to the total incompetence of this administration.

Listening to talk left radio on Friday they reminded listeners of the phrase born during Watergate. "Un-Indited Co-Conspirators" was the phrase used to describe Nixon and the others who were as guilty as those who had been indited for lying and covering up the break in at the Watergate. Chaney has now earned the dubious title and will go down in history as a liar. In the mean time the republican spin doctors are trying to convince us that the charges are trumped up and not important. I guess outing a CIA operative and putting her life and our national security at risk is not a big deal to them. Nothing compared to the Lewinsky scandal...that was much worse in their eyes.

Miller and His Big Mouth...

The CEO of Delphi has finally figured out his mouth is almost as big as his ego. After several weeks of finding venues to insult and salt the wounds of the workers of Delphi he has finally conceded maybe he should shut his big mouth.

After dissing the workers and making excuses for taking care of the boys at the top he has finally realized who puts the product out the door and how close he is to forcing their hand. The shareholders might want to wake up and rethink the supposed magic of this idiot. It doesn't take any talent to send your lawyers into to bankruptcy court. The talent is taking what you have, including those who helped build the company, and finding a way to turn things around so everyone benefits. If there is nothing in it for the workers why in the hell should they care if Delphi lives or dies. It's not hard to find a job that pays $9.50 and hour with crappy benefits.

God bless you Rosa...you were one class act and will never be forgotten.

Mr. Sam...

Quote of the Day

"I have always said without suffix, without prefix or apology I am a Democrat."

Sam Rayburn
Former Speaker of the House

Back in the Day

When Sam Rayburn was Speaker of the House you answered to him. And the greats of the time did just that starting with a man who grew as powerful as Sam himself...Lyndon Johnson. But as long as Sam was around he answered to Sam. Rayburn was a natural. And the power he had he got the old fashioned way...he earned it. And for him it was not about money or ego, although he had one, it was about doing what was right for those who sent him to Washington. In his time you were accountable to the party. If you wanted to break with the party on an important vote you usually weren't around to do it again. Frankly, it's the way the Republicans do it today. And you've got to give it to them for voting as a block on the issues important to their agenda. The Democrats today are a different story.

The old saying lead, follow or get the hell out of the way is something the Democrats need to learn. Since the Johnson administration the Democrats get up on a different side of the bed everyday. They move towards the center and bounce back to the left only if they think no one is looking. In the mean time those who look to them for representation have been left standing on the side of the road waiting for the party to find a leader who can make a difference. The problem is not only do they not have a clear leader they don't know where in the hell they are going.

Their ignorance and void of leadership has brought us to were we are today. The bumbling mistakes that have given the White House, Senate and House to the Republicans have cost dearly. Today we have a war that has killed almost 2000 kids and is costing our nation billions of dollars. More lives will be lost and billions more will be spent rebuilding a country who never wanted our help to begin with and we will be fighting forever. Unemployment is rampant and jobs are leaving by the thousands each and every day. The realities of NAFTA and now CAFTA is depleting what was let of our industrial base and good paying jobs are leaving and not coming back.

We are witnessing a change in the Supreme Court that will cost the average American for the next fifty years. Decisions will be made that will help businesses continue to rape and pillage the lives of workers and their families. Laws are being changed on a daily basis that benefit the rich and hurt the poor. One example is the recently enacted bankruptcy laws. Was there a problem? Well I haven't heard of any credit cart companies going broke lately. But the horrible state of our economy has Americans standing in line to file for bankruptcy. And now instead of a chance to rebuild their credit they will have to jump though hoops and suffer longer. Will our interest rates be lower? Fat chance.

And on these topics alone, trade and bankruptcy reform the Republicans needed Democrats in order to have the votes to make the law. And it's not just examples, but almost every bill that goes before the House and Senate. The rich get richer and the poor keep getting poorer. Soon the gap will be so wide the only way to correct it will involve a revolution. And if you look at history it's always what seems to happen. One group gains absolute power, changes everything to benefit themselves and then oppress the masses to leave no choice but to rebel.

We should be very careful when it comes to turning more and more powers to those who run homeland security. We may be helping to build the new KGB. The organization to control those who have no other choice but to fight back. When will capital learn that financial harmony is something that must be shared not cornered.

1992 And Counting

Quote of the Day

Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realize that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events.

Sir Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965)

What Price War...

As of Thursday the death toll in Iraq has reached 1992 American kids who went to war as a result of the incompetence of the Bush administration. As the numbers increase there is no plan to withdraw our troops and end this ridiculous war that we will never win. The only beneficiaries will be the Haliburtons and other friends of the administraton who find profit in human loss.

The Staged Pep Rally

Quote of the Day

"It seems to me that there are two kinds of trickery: the 'fronts' people assume before one another's eyes, and the 'front' a writer puts on the face of reality."

Francois Sagan

More Lies and Endless Deceit...

The old saying holds true...you can tell when the Bush administration is lying...their lips are moving. As an American I am ashamed. In the past the administration has been exposed with pretend reporters asking fluff questions in White House briefings. It has used the dipstick in a flight suit landing on an aircraft carrier declaring mission accomplished. It got an old fireman to stand on a heap of rubble at ground zero to make it appear he was winning the fight on terror. This week their charade continued with a totally phony photo op complete with scripted military cast of players to banter hyperboles about the wonderful job we are doing in Iraq.

Salon Photo Op Article

The credibility of our Country is being drug through the mug while these jerks pretend their way through the war and everything else they have screwed up in this nation. None of our problems are being addressed, only managed with lies and deceit. When you can't defend your actions with truth they always attempt to dazzle us with bullshit. And for some idiots these lies and deceit work. But one thing I have noticed as of late is that the glue on the GW stickers is wearing out...you see fewer and fewer of them on the road these days.

The Capitalist Puke....

Quote of the day...

The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good.

Samuel Johnson (1709-1784)

More About Delphi

Arrogance is an acquired sickness. For Delphi CEO Steve Miller being an arrogant asshole is a way of life. Miller is a jerk who has spent his life making millions ruining workers lives by using the bankruptcy courts to force concessions from the active workers and destroying the lives of the retirees who built the companies.

"Paying $65 an hour for someone mowing the lawn at one of our plants is just not going to cut it anywhere in industrial America for very long," Miller said, referring to the average combined wages, benefits and pensions of an hourly Delphi worker. At the same time the arrogant prick justifies millions voted by the board to the top 21 executives of Delphi Miller said. "Well, I'm sorry. ... There are large disparities in this country and around the world in what people can expect for mowing a lawn versus managing a huge business." "We are in a market for human capital," he said. "If you pay too much for a particular class of employee, you go broke. You pay too little, and you won't have anyone left to do the work."

Gee thanks for the glib explaination of what constitutes a "have" and "have not". The revolution is coming asshole. Miller also defended his $3 million signing bonus to join Delphi, "to replace all the other stream of income I was asked to give up." He said he expected to take a cut in his $1.5 million annual salary as part of the restructuring. I wonder if that will cause him to file for personal bankruptcy? That would be a bitch!

Georges' Neverending War

Quote of the Day

What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty or democracy?

Mahatma Gandhi (1869 - 1948)

As the death toll climbs toward the two thousand mark the war in Iraq shows no signs of ending any time soon. Two thousand dead. Two thousand families changed forever...and for what? I only wish a few of the families that were feeling the pain of this war included the Bush's, Cheney's,
Rumsfields, Rices, Limbaugh's, O'Reiley's and the rest of the right wing zealots who believe there is a reason we are fighting this war.

The lives lost and the billions being spent in Iraq is inexcusable. At a time when our nation is trying to rebound from the largest national disasters in history we are pouring money down an endless hole for nothing. We are spending billions rebuilding Iraq while we are requiring our own citizens to repay the loans they are receiving to rebuild their lives after the hurricanes.

The Bankruptcy Game

The largest auto part supplier Delphi filed for bankruptcy on Saturday. A few days before the board of directors voted themselves million dollar severance packages under the guise of retaining their top executives during the reorganization. In effect they are doing what has become standard practice in all corporate bankruptcies, loot the company on the way out. The only thing I don't understand is why you want to make sure you keep the idiot's who made the decisions that bankrupted the company in the first place. In an interview today the CEO of Delphi defended the bonuses for executives. He said the executives at Delphi are underpaid while the workers are over paid.

Delphi is proposing wage cuts for hourly workers bringing their pay to $10.00 an hour, or around $20,000 a year. The 2004 poverty level established by the federal government for a family of four is $18,850. Considering the cut amounts to a 60% cut in pay the majority of workers will be forced into bankruptcy based upon their current financial liabilities that were established under their current wage rates.

Bush's Poll Number Decline

Polls reported today Bush's approval ratings have dropped to 39%. It's about time American's wake up to what's going on in America. The economy is in the ditch, gas prices are through the roof, the war drags on and Bush and the Republicans have no idea of how to do anything but take care of the top 2% of richest Americans.

Ignorance Abound...
Quote of the Day

Behind every great fortune there is a crime.

Honore de Balzac (1799-1850)

Ahhh...Capitalism

One of the largest auto parts suppliers in our nation Delphi is threatening to file bankruptcy unless they receive a 60% wage and benefit concession from their workers. At the same time the board of directors vote to give their top executives millions of dollars in the event they are fired. In reality Delphi is using the timing of the enactment of the new bankruptcy laws to force concessions from their workers. And at the same time the top executives are lining their own pockets at the expense of the corporation they are allegedly trying to save. This is yet another example of why capitalism sucks. Like Kmart, Enron, Global Crossing and all the others before them, Delphi reaches for the golden ring while raping their workers.

Mean time in the Detroit News letters to the editor blame the workers for the problems at Delphi. Overpaid workers with excessive health care and benefits are why Delphi is going under...yah right. It makes me sick. When will the idiots in this country quit hatting and blames unions for bringing workers into the middle class. And not just unionized workers...but all workers. Before unions there were no pensions, health insurance or decent wages.

Unions now represent less than 10% of our nations work force. The days so many like to exude when unionized workers allegedly ruled the workplaces is long gone. What's left is a nation with a dismal future for workers. The industrial base has been allowed to be given away to third world countries who pay their workers little to nothing. All while American workers are told to compete to survive. We will never be willing to compete with Mexico and Asia and lower our standard of living to match theirs. But if something is not done to stop the erosion of jobs and incentives to corporations to file for bankruptcy while protecting their personal fortunes this Country will not survive as a world power.

In all honesty I can't blame the 2% of Americans who control the wealth of our nation. They have convinced the majority of Americans who vote that their interest are the same as the workers. I blame the idiots who believe them.

Oh Billy....

Is'nt it strange how people respond when zealots speak their minds and forget to camouflage their true feelings. Bill Bennett is a racist pig. What's new? When you take the white sheets off of the right wing they are all the same. Just like Trent Lott's tribute to Strom Thurman. Again take off their sheets and they are all the same. It's got to be a little embarrassing for Condi Rice when her buddies start telling the truth. I guess that's the mark of a good token to be able to let the hate run off their backs. Oh well...if your going to live in the big house.

Ratings...Ratings...Ratings

The morning shows are making me sick with their coverage of the aftermath of the hurricanes. Every day they broadcast with hammers beating in the background while they pretend to pound nails and save the victims singlehandedly. At the same time they forget that thousands are still in shelters sleeping on floors. Instead of visiting the shelters and telling the stories of those who still need help they center their coverage on fluff and bullshit. And joining in soon we will see the Queen Mother...Luara going to New Orleans as a cast member on the reality show that gets it's ratings off the backs of the underprivileged and downtrodden. Ahhhh America!

When are the networks going to go back to reporting the real news. Kids are dying everyday in Iraq. They never cover the funerals, visit or attempt to help the families of the fallen soldiers. Over 1900 families have been devastated by this phony war. Who is reaching out to help those who have had their lives turned upside down? Who shows the realities of those who are dying for nothing in Iraq? I guess that's a little too much reality for the networks to endure.

I'm Mad As Hell And I'm Not Taking It Anymore....
Quote of the Day...

Confronted with the choice, the American people would choose the policeman's truncheon over the anarchist's bomb.

Spiro T. Agnew

Being a liberal is not easy. You're constantly disappointed, frustrated and mad. But until now I have been mad at the wrong people. George Bush, the republican party and everything they stand for make me sick. But without supporters they would be nothing. And the same is true in history. Hitler, Stalin and all the other monsters in time have all had supporters. Enough supporters to control. And there lies the problem. As bad as these crazy bastards were they would have been nothing without the idiots who supported them. And the sad fact is nothing was learned and nothing has changed.

What are supporters? I believe supporters can for the most part can be categorized in three different groups. The first group are individuals who know exactly what

Let's Talk About Anything But What's Important!
Quote of the Day...

If stupidity got us into this mess, then why can't it get us out?

Will Rogers

The republicans have tuned up their strategy to divert attention away from the travesty of the war. With the numbers of Americans supporting the war dropping Bush and Company has now resorted to spreading rumors and stimulating fear in an attempt to keep people from paying attention to the failure of the war in Iraq.

This week a rumor started Chaney was going to be replaced on the ticket. Yeah right. But the media chased it all over the place. Then Mr. Homeland Security hits the news with renewed thetas of domestic terrorism but stopping short of actually elevating the nation alert to whatever in the hell the next color is in an effort to save the money it would take to elevate the official status. I love a Homeland dude that's always thinking of money over the safety of the citizens.

Meantime the death count continues to increase in Iraq, the economy is in the toilet, the prisoner scandal continues to unravel and the republicans have Americans chasing their tails with worthless rumors.

Don't know if you have heard...but Al Franken of Saturday Night Live fame now has a daily radio show on Air America. Franken is great! In Passing...

Word that Odessa Komer, former Vice President of the UAW has passed away. Odessa was a class act. A pioneer woman on the staff of the UAW Odessa made a difference. As the second female Vice President following the late Olga Madar, Odessa set out to increase the responsibilities of the office of the female executive board position. Her persistence lead to bargaining assignments that included heading up the Independent Parts and Supplies and Aerospace Departments. Along with her added bargaining assignments she also championed the rights of women in the workplace. One of her major contributions was the victory in the courts against Johnson Controls that prevented the company from banning pregnant women from select jobs.

The labor movement and especially women in the UAW owe a great debt to Odessa Komer. She was a gallant warrior who was not afraid to stand toe to toe with whoever was attempting to deny the rights of workers. Thanks and God bless you Odessa.

Chaney Is An Asshole...

Quote of the Day...

He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire."

Sir Winston Churchill

Dick Chaney...what a jerk. His recent outburst on the Senate floor only confirms there is another idiot a heart beat from being President. Chaney has a real problem with people pointing out he's a crook...much like Tricky Dick. If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. And Dick, F@$# you too!

Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 911 is now in theaters and the Republicans are doing everything they can to discredit the movie. And helping them is the news media, NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox and all the rest doing everything they can to help the Republicans. Weeks before the release of the movie the media has been busy trying and find holes in the movie. So far they have been having problems finding anything. Everyone says the only ones that will go to see it are Democrats...I hope that's not true.

Did anyone see CBS Sunday Morning today? They had a segment on the need to re institute the draft. Oh sure Bush don't't want to talk about it during the campaign but there is really no alternative. As much as I hate this or any other war I'm all for bringing back the draft.

First of all it gives draft aged kids a reason to get involved in the political process. Instead of laying back and not getting involved, they can either get involved or go to war. But we have to do it right. No more deferments, no more rich kids using their families influence to evade the draft. Everybody goes, no excuses. When we start involving the politicians and the rich kids in our wars then maybe we will think twice about getting involved in the first place. This nation has always provided ways for the rich and affluent to beat the draft and avoid war, i.e. George Bush, Dick Chaney, Don Rumsfeld, Carl Rove, Rush Limbaugh and all the other war lovers. They like sending other to kick ass. It's time we let them lead the charge.

Looking back at the civil and social unrest in the 60's it was the kids on the campus's who lead to opposition to the war in Viet Nam. And why not the young people...it was their asses on the line. So many of the kids in Iraq today would be protesting themselves if they could. They signed up for all of the benefits of education and training offered by the "all volunteer" military only to find themselves in a full blown war. A war that has killed over 800 young Americans. These "volunteer's" now find themselves forced into extended service because of the war. And they fact they have been forced to extend their service will in my opinion end the "volunteer" army. No one wants to be forced to serve longer than they agreed to when they enlisted.

Let's bring the draft back. Let's let the kids who have put their lives on the line and served the time they signed up for come home. And at the same time, let's engage the ones that will be taking their place in the decisions of war. Let's see how many of them think war is a necessary or viable option when it's their asses that will be on the line!

Ron Jr. Speaks Out...

Quote of the Day...

Don't be so humble - you are not that great.

Golda Meir to a Visiting Diplomat

Ronald Reagan, Jr. has come publicly the Bush Administration for invoking former President Reagan's name as it relates to the Iraqi war. The young Reagan told NBC that the Bush Administration had no business invoking his late Father's name or making claims their programs and policies have any relationship to the senior Reagan. Way to go Ron, Jr. Bush and company will defame or use anyone one they can to advance this election. To bad they have to attempt to ride the coat tails of someone not here to defend themselves.

Lies and More Lies...

Even after the 9/11 Commission has ruled out any connection between Al Quada and Iraq, Bush continues to insist the two were conspirators in the events of 9/11. Give it up George...everyone now knows you were lying about Hussein when you used the conspiracy theory to justify the war in Iraq. Polls show the lie was very effective in forming public opinion of why we should go to war with Iraq. And like Richard Clarke said in his testimony before the 9/11 Commission, attacking Iraq after 9/11 made as much sense had America attacked Mexico in response the the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Blood Money
Quote of the Day...

Behind every great fortune there is a crime."

Honore de Balzac (1799-1850)

Congressional hearings begin today into the no bid 18 billion contract awarded to Haliburton by the Bush-Chaney Administration. A Pentagon audit revealed in a one year period Haliburton overcharged the American public hundreds of millions for gas and meals for our troops. Haliburton has also admitted to accepting over 6 million dollars in illegal kick backs. All of this in a time of war.

Prior to becoming Vice President, Chaney was CEO at Haliburton and still has hundreds of thousands of dollars in Haliburton stock and was instrumental in insuring Haliburton was awarded the contract over the protest of Army officials. And even though Haliburton has stolen hundreds of millions and taken over 6 million in kick backs the administration continues to do business with them. What's new. This White House has a puncheon for crooks, liars and law breakers.

For eight years the Republicans tried to nail Bill and Hillary Clinton on every rumor that came down the pike. They spent millions of dollars and wasted hours of congressional attention that could have been used for solving the problems of our country. All of this time and money wasted and the Clinton's were never charged with anything.

Now we have an administration that lies, cheats and defrauds taxpayers every day of the week. And when they are not lying, cheating and defrauding they are protecting their other friends, i.e. Enron, Global Crossing, Haliburton and all the others.

Quick...Duck Behind the Dead Guy
Quote of the Day...

In America, anybody can be president. That's one of the risks you take.

Adlai Stevenson

In the wake to Reagan death there is a lot of speculation of how his death will play on the upcoming Presidential election. The death of Reagan has stirred up a huge swell of Republicans trying to make hay over their fallen idol. Sad to think Reagan is the only star the Republicans claim since Abe Lincoln. And no one would doubt that Abe would be a Republican if he were alive today.

The Bush campaign claims it will not use photos or compare Bush to Reagan during the election, but I don't think we should hold our breath. Ironically, Georgies commercials are pathetically truthful these days. One I saw for the first time today tells how bad things are in America and then how bad Kerry is for pointing them out. Whats that about...are they going for the sympathy vote?

Bush is in trouble. It becomes more and more apparent each day this group of idiots had no idea of what they were getting into with the war in Iraq, much less how to get out of it. Sadly, 800 and counting dead along with thousands wounded have paid the price for ill conceived war. Dispite all this administration has done to hide the dead and wounded from the public eye the realities of this conflict are finally coming home. The economy is in the gutter, gas prices are at all time highs and millions remain jobless.

Sorry George. Not even Reagan can save you now.

Is Ashcroft Bigger Than the Constitution?

Quote of the Day...

Whenever men take the law into their own hands, the loser is the law. And when the law loses, freedom languishes."

Robert Francis Kennedy

Who in the hell does John Ashcroft think he is? In his testimony before the Senate this week Ashcroft refused to produce a confidential Justice Department memo that may be the smoking gun in the prisoner abuse scandal. The memo rules the protections provided by Geneva Convention are moot as they apply to the current conflict in Iraq. You know it's great to have a Justice Department who is not afraid to violate the Constitution by refusing to produce documents requested by the United States Senate and reinterpreting treaties our nation has signed and abided by decades. So what if the repercussions could mean torture for American POW's in the future. If we decide we aren't going to play by the rules why should any other counrty feel they should abide by them either. And since when should the U.S. Senate get in the way of a rogue like General Ashcroft...a guy just trying to do his job without all this bullshit involved in the silly constitutional concept regarding the balance of power. Get over it.

>

And apparently he did. Oh Biden and Kennedy gave Ashcroft a tough time but only problem is they forgot to site him for contempt. When Ashcroft declined to invoke executive privilege and still refused the Senate committee request he was in contempt of the Senate. At some point and time the Senate is going to have to step up to the plate and take this administration on. When you look at all of the civil rights that have been weakened by the Patriot Act we should be terrified by the Justice Department, the ones who are charged with the responsibility of administering and interpreting our laws. And when Ashcroft refuses to comply with a request for documents by the U.S. Senate where does it end.

Under the Patriot Act citizens can be detained without formal charges for as long as the government deems necessary. Wire taps and other forms of communication are now free game for government agents. And the list of freedoms changed by the Act goes on and on. As these liberties are stripped from our citizens we had better be dammed sure the new found powers given to the government are not abused. The only way this can happen is if the agencies abide by the law and remain accountable. When the Attorney General is allowed to thumb his nose at the Senate with out repercussion we have a serious problem in this country. And even worse is when the legislative branch fails to uphold their over site responsibilities and allows Ashcroft to ignore the constitution we are teetering on the brink of anarchy.

Why is it Republicans think they are above the law? When we look back we see the shame brought on our nation by the actions of Nixon. Then there was Reagan and the Iran/Contra scandal of which Daddy Bush was knee deep into. And now all of the lies and abuse of power of the current administraiton. We should be asking ourselves why we are allowing them to get away with these lies and abuses of power.

Pompus Aragance...Ala Ronnie and Nancy

Quote of the Day...

When the character of a man is not clear to you, look at his friends.

Japanese Proverb

I remember the assassination of President Kennedy and the nations tribute that followed. Befitting a President who was struck down in the prime of his life while serving his country. The nation screeched to a halt to pay tribute to the fallen President.

And now come the Reagan's. The facts emerge that shortly after leaving the White House Ronnie and Nancy sat down and planned Ronnie's funeral to the tune of 500 detailed pages of instructions. What a couple of pompous arrogant assholes. Why does this country owe a two term President a state funeral that has set our Nation back millions of dollars so Queen Nancy can have her last glimmer of self serving fame. I hope this country never sees another couple of actors so stuck on themselves to choreograph their own demise.

Here's a guy who spent 8 years sleeping at the stick while his right wing appointees ran the country into the dirt. It makes me sick to hear people give credit for superficial bullshit like ending the cold war and bringing the pride back to America. Pride like denying 19,000 Air Traffic Controllers their right the basic rights of collective bargaining and then firing them. This after serving as President of the Screen Actors Guild. What a hypocrite! But I guess his time as President of the Screen Actors was actually spent spying on his constituents and turning them in to his buddies on the House Committee on Un-American Activities, Joe McCarthy, Dick Nixon and friends.

For the last week the media and the right wing zealots have been on a 24/7 to make this idiot a saint. What a joke. Ronnie always had his fan club and I don't deny him that, but to start overlooking all of the short comings of this "B" actor and D- politician is sad.

The Reagan Era in America was a time of unbridled greed and deception. A time of scaring and lying to Americans about the evil forces that loom at our door step ready to take over our country. A time where deceit was the name of the game with a jerk like Ollie North, a piss ant Lt. Colonel carrying out his own brand of foreign policy while at the same time Reagan using his declining memory to distance himself from responsibility. A time where Savings and Loans where deregulated and unchecked resulting in millions of Americans losing their life savings and retirement funds. A time when companies were bought in sold 5 or more times in a day, gutted leaving thousands of workers fired, or working for a fraction of what they were making the day before.

I guess my repulsion for the events of the week should be replaced with sadness. Sadness for two people who lived life in a vacuum consumed only with their own self endulged egos. Sad, really sad.

Farewell Ray...We'll miss you my friend...

Ray Charles was my hero. I have been a fan of his all my life. My Dad was a major influence on my love for music. Ray was a favorite of his and I guess it rubbed off on me. He would listen and sing along to his albums for hours. When ever I think of Ray I always think of my Dad.

No one will ever be able to equal his style and voice. He was simply a genius. His diverse love of music made him a favorite to so many young and old. I have never cared for Jazz But that was ok because Ray did it all jazz, soul, country and pop. Whatever you liked Ray did...and did it well.

Heaven has gained one hell of a singer and human being...and here on earth we have lost a true legend. Peace be with you my friend...we will miss you
.

March to May and the Madness Continues

Quote of the Day...

What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty or democracy?

Mahatma Gandhi

800 Plus And Counting...

It appears the American people have finally woke up and realized their President is an idiot. That he lied and mislead the American public into believing we had a reason to invade Iraq. Invading is the easy part, winning is all together different. But gee...when his idiot Daddy was President, Powell and Schwartzkopf sat in an air conditioned room and fought the war like playing a super video game. Everything was as sanitary as possible and made for great TV. Come to think of it that's probably what Little George was doing during the last one...playing Nintendo.

I believe as others that a major deterient to war would require the leaders who take us to war be the first ones in on the front lines and the last ones to leave. Not only them but their families as well. That way if they are willing to send others to their deaths they should also be willing to make the same sacrifices themselves. It's ironic...Bush spent his time during Viet Nam in the National Guard and AWOL for most of the time. Chaney, Rumsfeld and Rove dodged the draft with deferments. Their media cheerleaders...O'Reilly, Limbaugh and Hanity were also draft dodgers. It's ok for others to make the utimate sacrifice but leave them out of it. It's easy to be a hawk when your ass ain't on the line. The sanctimonious gutless bastards. It's not to late for them to suit up and hit the front lines. I'm sure they would'nt have any problem finding brave soldiers who trade places with each and every one of the them.
